City extends downtown patio hours to support restaurant industry

(Barrie, ON) A special City Council Meeting was held last night (August 30), where Council unanimously voted to extend patio hours on City property. The new hours for patios on municipal property will remain until November 30, 2021.

The hours people will be permitted to remain in the outdoor area are extended from 11:15 p.m. to 12:15 a.m., Monday to Wednesday, and 11:15 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The hours people can enter or re-enter an outdoor area are extended from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday to Wednesday, and from 10:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

On the Sundays of the two long weekends (Labour Day and Thanksgiving), the hours that people are permitted to remain in the outdoor area are extended from 11:15 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., and the hours people can enter or re-enter an outdoor area are extended from 10:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m.

All other regulations and by-laws, including no amplified sound on the patios after 11:00 p.m. continue to apply with the operation of the patios. Non-compliance of municipal regulations and by-laws could result in permits being revoked or further conditions being added to the permits.

These changes only apply to patios on municipal property. Hour of operation for patios on private property are governed under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). However, these properties are required to follow the City's Noise By-law which regulates any sound emissions as a result of the patio.
