Economic recovery programs continue to support businesses

(Barrie, ON) – Last night, Council approved the continuation of three key economic recovery programs. Business in the Parks, Patios Everywhere and Open Air Dunlop will all be continued in 2022 to help businesses recover from the pandemic.

Business in the Parks

The Business in the Parks program has been extended until December 31, 2022. The program provides businesses the ability to reserve space for a set time in designated public parks. All activities offered must require participants to pre-register.

In addition to Meridian Place, Sunnidale Park and Southshore Park, the 2022 program has been expanded to include Cheltenham Park, East Bayfield Community Park, Eastview Park, Ferndale Park, Golden Meadow Park, Little Lake Park, Lougheed Park, Madelaine Park, Painswick Park, Sandringham Park, Shear Park, St. Vincent Park and Tyndale Park.

Patios Everywhere & Downtown BIA Patio Program

The Patios Everywhere, including refreshment vehicles, & Downtown BIA Patio Programs will operate between April 1 - November 30, 2022.

In continued support of recovery and impacted businesses, fees associated with the patio programs will be 50 per cent of the permit cost based on licensing fees for any new permit applications. Any temporary patio that received a permit in 2020 and/or 2021 without changes to their approved patio will have their permit re-issued at no cost.

Council approved extending patio hours on municipal property for 2022. The following extended hours will be in effect for 2022:

The hours that a person can enter or re-enter an outdoor area is extended from:10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday and10:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

The hours a person can remain on an outdoor patio is also extended from:11:15 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. Monday – Thursday11:15 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Staff will work with businesses and the BIA to complete the patio application process in advance of

April 1, 2022.

Open Air Dunlop

Open Air Dunlop will continue in partnership with the Downtown BIA this summer. For 17 consecutive Saturdays from June 4 – September 24, Dunlop Street East will be closed to vehicles between Mulcaster Street and

Clapperton Street, and along Dunlop Street West from Bayfield Street to Maple Avenue. There will also be three pop-up closures on October 8, October 29 and November 19, 2022.
