Further City facility updates in response to Province's reopening plan

(Barrie, ON) The City of Barrie is reopening more facilities based on Tuesday'sprovincial announcement of the amendment to the emergency order.

The City reminds residents to continue to follow public health guidelines: keep practicing physical distancing, no gatherings of more than five people and stay home when you are sick.

City staff are in the process of preparing outdoor sports facilities and need time to complete all safety inspections and maintenance work before reopening. The City's webpage about impacted city services (barrie.ca/services) will be updated with information as these facilities reopen. 

The following is a list of what is currently open and closed in the city, in terms of outdoor facilities:

OPEN

Tiffin Boat LaunchDog Off-Leash Recreation Area (DOLRA) on Bayview Dr.OPENING SOON

Marina, boat launch and Bayfield basin transient boat docks will reopen on Friday, May 22Outdoor tennis courts and the outdoor pickleball court (located at Painswick Park) will reopen by the week of May 25Baseball diamonds, basketball courts, soccer fields, skate parks and the disc golf course will reopen in the coming weeks. Physical distancing of two metres is still in effect and gatherings of more than five people are still not permitted at any time.

 Even though sports fields will reopen for individual recreational use (no organized play), Parks & Forestry staff require two weeks to prepare the fields for organized or group activities once the Province lifts restrictions for team/group activities of more than five people on sports fields. There are no sports fields permits being issued for organized sports groups at this time.

Beaches, outdoor playground equipment, waterfront fitness equipment and splash pads remain closed until later stages of the province's reopening plan
