Holly Community Centre renamed as the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, as part of sponsorship agreement

(Barrie, ON) – Barrie's Holly Community Centre, located at 171 Mapleton Avenue in southwest Barrie, has been renamed the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, as part of an eight-year sponsorship agreement.

On January 17, 2022, City Council approved a Naming Rights Agreement with The Peggy Hill Team. The agreement starts March 1, 2022 and ends February 28, 2030. As part of the agreement, City staff are updating existing signage on the facility, references to the facility on barrie.ca, publications and other assets to reflect the new facility name as Peggy Hill Team Community Centre.

“I want to thank Peggy Hill for coming forward with this sponsorship," said Mayor Jeff Lehman. “Peggy lives in our city, has built a successful business here and has contributed a lot to her community over the years. I'm delighted that the City is entering into this naming rights agreement with the Peggy Hill Team."

“I would like to thank the City of Barrie for giving us the opportunity to support our community," said Peggy Hill. “The team and I are honoured to be in a position where we can support the community that supports us every single day."

Built in 2008, the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre is a multi-purpose facility featuring a 25-metre pool, a toddler pool, two ice rinks, a gymnasium, meeting and activity rooms, a fitness centre, a youth centre and a childcare centre. This community centre has approximately 82,000 visitors each month (2019 average).

As part of the agreement, the City's Heritage Committee is being consulted on the development of an installation at the Community Centre to showcase the history of the Holly community. City staff are currently working with the Committee on an educational and historical display, and the potential to incorporate a collage of photographs depicting the history of the Holly area. This display will be installed at the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre in the coming months.
