Mapleview Drive East closure extended until June 15

(Barrie, ON) On March 2, Mapleview Dr. E. from Yonge St. to Royal Jubilee Dr. was fully closed for infrastructure work. The closure was expected to last until approximately May 15, but the City will be extending the temporary closure for an additional month, until June 15.

The delay in reopening the road is due to the frozen ground and the extensive dewatering process (removing water from the area), which progressed the work slower than originally scheduled. As well, ensuring safety and physical distancing requirements due to COVID-19 also caused some delays.

The road closure is a continuation of work that happened in the fall of 2019, which includes the construction and installation of a large watermain, sanitary sewer and road crossings. The work ensures the City has infrastructure in place to service developments, including the new south Barrie high school.

Barrie Transit stops 515, 522 and 596 will continue to be out of service for the duration of the road closure. Route 3 will detour via Royal Jubilee/Sun King/Majesty/Prince William. SeeBarrie Transit Service Notices for detour and GO Shuttle details.
