Next stage of Dunlop streetscape construction starting in March

(Barrie, ON) The next phase of the Dunlop St. construction project will start the week of March 2 and continue until fall 2020.

This project is necessary to replace aging infrastructure in Barrie's downtown. Above ground, the project will improve the pedestrian experience with wider sidewalks, while providing downtown businesses with more attractive and accessible storefronts. New streetlights, planters and trees will make for a refreshed and greener downtown.

All businesses on Dunlop St. are open during construction. Dunlop St. is open to pedestrians and the City encourages residents and visitors to support local stores, restaurants and services.

The initial stage of construction took place on Dunlop St. (Poyntz to east of Owen) from August to November 2019.

The next construction stages are outlined below:

STAGE 1 - March to July 2020

Dunlop/Owen St. intersection closure and Dunlop St. closed between Owen and Clapperton

STAGE 2 - July to September 2020

Five Points intersection closure and Toronto St. intersection closure with construction areas on Dunlop St. between Clapperton St. and Maple Ave., and between Mary St. and Toronto St.

STAGE 3 - September to November 2020

Mary St. and Maple Ave. intersection closure with construction area on Dunlop St. between Maple Ave. and Mary St.

Two-hour free parking will be provided in the Chase McEachern Way and Maple Avenue Central parking lots from March until the end of construction. Residents/visitors must print a receipt from the machine and display it on their vehicle dashboard to be eligible for the free two-hour parking.
