Residents invited to help keep clothes out of our landfill

(Barrie, ON) City of Barrie residents are invited to do some spring cleaning and help keep reusable items out of the landfill by participating in the next curbside collection of textiles (clothing, linens and shoes). The textile curbside collection will take place the week of June 13 to 17, 2022.

Donating your items is easy:Look up your textile collection day (note that it will not be the same as your regular collection day for garbage, recycling and green bin material).Place your items in a bag (preferably a clear bag, but if you don't have a clear bag, you can use any type of waterproof bag and put a label on the bag that says “textiles")Put your items out on the curb on your textile collection day by 7 a.m., rain or shine. or call 1-866-927-3873 to determine your collection day, to review the full list of acceptable items, or if you have questions.

Donations will support the Cornerstone to Recovery, a non-profit, charitable agency that provides community-based recovery programs for individuals and families experiencing and impacted by addiction. This collection links those wishing to part with unwanted reusable goods with those in need of them.

The City has two curbside textile collections per year. In addition, there are textile bins at five facilities across the city that accept textile donations. The bin locations are as follows: Operations Centre at 165 Ferndale Drive North, Wastewater Maintenance Facility at 167 Bradford Street, Sadlon Arena at 555 Bayview Drive, Barrie Public Library (Painswick branch) at 48 Dean Avenue, and Allandale Recreation Centre at 190 Bayview Drive.
