De-Clutter with Barrie’s annual Free Goods Exchange Day! It's as easy as 1 2 3:
TIP: Tell others about your items on social media and www.Kijiji.ca by including #BarrieFGED in your messaging!
The City of Barrie began this program in the early 90s and has continued to run it yearly due to positive feedback from the residents. Primarily, FGED diverts garbage from the landfill. Unfortunately, many useful items make their way to the landfill due to residents not knowing how to get rid of them or not wanting to deal with the organizing of a garage sale. By providing such programs as the FGED, the City helps residents reuse consumable products and conserve the landfill, which saves the community money and is kinder on our environment.
Any items that are usable and would be a shame to throw out are suitable. Popular items include sporting goods, furniture, small appliances, books, tools, toys, doors, windows and so much more. FGED resembles a garage sale, but without the money or hassle. Everything you place at the end of your driveway or at the edge of your lawn is FREE. Anyone can come by and take it away. Because there is no money exchanged, you don’t have to stick around. You can simply place your stuff at the curb and go. Make sure to keep wanted items away from the curb or you might find them gone when you return!
FGED Benefits Everyone
Apart from finding items you can use for free, you also benefit by ridding your home of unwanted useable stuff without having to sell it or transport it to the Barrie Landfill. A hassle-free solution, especially for the bulkier items. Also, FGED day allow you to give away these items easily. You don’t have to be present and no exchange of money takes place. You don’t even have to tell anyone or place an ad in the paper; The City takes care of the event advertising for you.
Please Note: Anything that does not find a new home must be taken back in by 9pm as there will be no special municipal collection.
