Curbside Collection

We're here to help!

Please email customercare.barrie@emterra.ca or call 1‑833‑253‑8207 to report any issues with organics, garbage, or yard waste collection. The City has access to Emterra’s customer service records and trucks are equipped with technology that can be reviewed to assist with investigating concerns. This helps the City manage the contract and understand where there may be challenges or opportunities for improvement.

There are many changes to curbside waste collection between 2024 and 2026, including automated cart collection starting on September 8, 2025:

The future of waste management includes a circular economy. This means we need to rethink the traditional three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) and consider the value of materials and products before they become waste. Let's rethink waste!

Earlier collection possible during summer months

Due to the health risk that heat poses for manual curbside waste collectors, when Environment Canada projects a daily air temperature or humidex of 30°C or higher waste collection could commence at 5am. If these temperatures are forecasted, residents are asked to put their waste out for curbside collection any time after 7pm the night before, or before 5am on collection day.

When early curbside collection is in effect, an alert is posted at the top of this website by 5pm the day prior. Notices are also posted on X and Facebook, and sent to residents in the impacted collection area by City e-news (based on recipient profile) and mobile app notification (based on notification preferences).
