The Operations department works year-round to maintain over 1,600 km of roads and over 600 km of sidewalks throughout Barrie, to ensure safe and enjoyable transportation.
Road closures can occur throughout Barrie for a variety of reasons, from road construction projects, to infrastructure maintenance, to community events.
Street Trees
The City is committed to beautifying and improving the urban environment through the introduction of trees on City-owned road right-of-ways.
Signals, Lighting & Sign Maintenance
The City maintains existing traffic signals, streetlights, and signs, replacing them when needed and installing new system elements when approved by the appropriate authority.
Spring, Summer & Fall Maintenance
The City conducts the annual street sweeping program to clean all City streets of sand and other debris, maintains curbs and sidewalks, and repairs potholes.
Winter Road Maintenance
The City is committed to providing a high level of snow removal service throughout the winter season.
