Barrie's paid parking areas and rates are split by downtown, waterfront, and hybrid areas, and electric vehicle charging stations are located in select municipal lots. The City partners with HotSpot to streamline parking within Barrie’s paid parking areas.

The Traffic By-law includes areas throughout Barrie where vehicle parking is prohibited. Overnight parking restrictions are in effect from December 1 through March 31. The Parking Strategy outlines how parking will evolve.

Downtown Parking
There are more than 2000 public parking spaces within walking distance to some of the best restaurants, shopping experiences, culture, and entertainment in beautiful downtown Barrie.
Marina & Hybrid Parking Lots
The Spirit Catcher, Lakeshore Drive, and North Marina parking lots are considered "hybrid" parking lots as they are located near both the downtown and designated waterfront parking areas. The Marina Lot is located next to City of Barrie Marina. Downtown parking permits and waterfront parking permits are not accepted in these lots.
Marina slip renters can purchase a marina parking permit to park for free in the marina and hybrid lots.
Parking rates in the marina and hybrid parking lots are consistent with waterfront parking rates: $10/hour and $50/daily. This is enforced 24/7/365. However, as per the Traffic By-law, overnight parking from 12:01am–5am is not permitted in these lots from December 1 through March 31.
Waterfront Parking
A digital waterfront parking permit is required to park for free at specific waterfront areas.
Drivers can park without a permit for $10/hour with a daily max of $50 in specific waterfront parking areas. Waterfront parking is enforced 24/7/365, however as per the Traffic By-law overnight parking is not permitted in all waterfront parking areas (lots and on-street) from December 1 through March 31 (12:01–5am).
Waterfront Parking Areas
On-street Parking Near Hospital
Near Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, on-street parking is available along the east side of Gallie Court and south side of Quarry Ridge Road (see Municipal Parking Map). Rates: $5/hour. There is no daily rate or time limit restrictions. Rates are enforced from 9am to 12am, Monday to Sunday. City-wide overnight parking restrictions are enforced in this area December 1 through March 31.
On-street Parking Near Allandale GO Station
The Allandale Waterfront GO Station parking lot is located on Gowan Street and provides free parking. On-street paid parking ($1.50/hour, Monday–Friday) is available on nearby Cumberland Street from Williams Street to Essa Road.
Did you know? The Allandale Residential Parking Permit program takes place on Allandale streets where on-street parking is not permitted 7am–9am on weekdays. You must live within this area to obtain a permit.
Paying for Parking
Cash payment is accepted at all parking locations. At select locations, payment is also accepted by credit card and/or the HotSpot parking app. QR code signs provide an additional payment option in select locations.
Using a HotSpot Account to Pay for Parking
HotSpot is available to download from Google Play and App Store. While we encourage everyone to use this app, pay stations & meters remain available. HotSpot accepts MasterCard, VISA and VISA Debit.
Using QR Code Signs to Pay for Parking
You can easily pay for a parking session from your mobile phone using QR code signs at all City parking lots and the Collier Street Parkade. Each QR code is linked to the parking location it is in. A $0.35 convenience fee (per parking session) applies. Parking staff are working toward providing the signs at all on-street parking options throughout downtown.
- Approach the sign and use your phone's camera app to focus on the QR code. The HotSpot parking webpage will be detected.
- Tap the web page address to open the webpage. No login is required.
- Follow the prompts. Apple Pay, Google Pay, and credit card are accepted.
HotSpot will send a receipt to the email address associated to ApplePay/GooglePay or to email address entered during credit card payment screen.
