Committees & Task Forces

Members of Barrie City Council are also members of standing committees and select reference committees. In addition, City Council establishes committees and task forces to ensure further opportunities for public input into community decision-making.

Mandate: To champion issues related to the provision of an accessible community on behalf of all Barrie’s citizens.
Type: Advisory Committee
Mandate: To promote and facilitate active transportation initiatives, to promote the protection, maintenance and awareness of the environment within the community and to provide advice concerning environmental policy, planning and sustainability.
Type: Task Force
Mandate: To develop a plan to co-ordinate housing projects and policies to aggressively expand the supply of affordable housing, with particular emphasis on addressing the hardest to house.

Mandate: To bridge and promote a stronger more positive understanding and representation of the City’s racialized groups.
Type: Advisory Committee
Mandate: Will be established by the Committee at the beginning of the term in consultation with staff from the Economic and Creative Development and Recreation and Culture Departments.

Mandate: The Barrie Public Art Committee’s (BPAC) goal is to enhance Barrie with art, and encourage residents and visitors alike to visit public spaces. BPAC secures art by commissioning new works, facilitating donations, and organizing temporary installations.

Mandate: To study and report to the General Committee on specific subject matters.

Mandate: Makes decisions on applications for consents and minor variances.

Mandate: To help facilitate the development of Barrie, in the Communities in Bloom National Municipal Beautification contest, with a focus on flowers, landscaping, gardens, beautification and environmental awareness.

Mandate: To develop a safety and well-being plan for the City of Barrie in accordance with the provisions of the Safer Ontario Act.
