Municipal Infrastructure Projects

The work of the City's Corporate Asset Management, Development Services, and Infrastructure departments each impact various design and construction projects across Barrie. Corporate Facilities' planning and development staff oversee facility projects that support select City services.

Road closures can occur due to municipal infrastructure projects.

Generally speaking, infrastructure projects are informed by a master plan or planning process, and project cycles may include environmental assessment studies, detailed design, then construction.

Projects in progress and completed this year are detailed below. Archived projects include construction projects completed prior to this year that were of significant interest to the public, and environmental assessment (EA) studies for which associated construction projects may be upcoming or in progress.

Proactive renewal programs including Early Life Pavement Preservation, Asphalt Crack Sealing, and Road Resurfacing help extend the life of a road and reduce total investment over the long term.

The 2022 Traffic Calming Program consists of three main initiatives: radar speed boards, temporary speed cushions, and permanent speed cushions.

To provide cathodic protection to aging metallic watermains by exposing the watermain and welding on a zinc anode, which increases service life by preventing rust on metallic watermains.

Nestled on the south-eastern edge of Barrie overlooking Kempenfelt Bay, the Allandale Train Station was the hub of activity in the early 1900’s for the Grand Trunk Railway.
