There’s no age limit on staying active in the City of Barrie. The Allandale 55+ Centre and the Parkview Centre for 55+ offer quality recreation, education and fitness opportunities along with events and workshops for individuals 55 years of age and better.

Our Centres are operated by the City of Barrie's Leisure, Transit, & Facilities Department and focus primarily on supporting our members in their quest for an active, healthy lifestyle. We invite you to drop by, take out a membership and experience the benefits of participation.

Active Living Volunteers

Our Centres offer a variety of volunteer opportunities. Our volunteers are friendly, dynamic, and outgoing people who maintain the daily operation of our Centres. Volunteer and make a difference in your community. Contact the Allandale Centre or the Parkview Centre to discover rewarding volunteer opportunities.

Outreach Day Program

The City of Barrie offers an adult day program at each of its centres for people who are experiencing difficulty taking advantage of our regular activities. This program is open to all residents of the City of Barrie. The Outreach Program promotes wellness by providing gentle exercises, a hot nutritious lunch and a unique afternoon activity. Fitness for 55+

Fit Fitness into your life with our fitness programs. Starting a new fitness program can be a difficult task, especially if you are a true beginner or have not exercised in decades. Remember, you are making a positive decision that can improve every aspect of your life! The City of Barrie 55+ centres have developed many programs to help you take your first steps to wellness. You don't have to be an athlete or a fitness guru to take part. Exercise will help you:

  • Sleep Better
  • Lose weight or maintain your weight
  • Improve you immune system and your ability to fight infections
  • Lower your risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes
  • Increase your feeling of well being
  • Help prevent falls

Walk the Walk

The City of Barrie is pleased to partner with the Georgian Mall in offering a new indoor walking program:

  • Where - Georgian Mall - 509 Bayfield St., (705) 726-9411 - Please enter through the rear doors at the back of the mall near the water tower.
  • How Often - The program runs year-round, Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m., and Sundays from 9:15 a.m. - 11 a.m.
  • How to Join - There is no cost for this program, but participants must register at Parkview 55+ Centre, Allandale 55+ Centre, or Victoria Village Activity Centre
  • Fee - There is no cost for this program
  • What to Bring - Walking is an excellent choice for beginners as it does not require special skills or equipment. All you need is a supportive pair of walking shoes, comfortable clothes and a desire to get fit!

Clinics at the Centres

Foot Care Clinic

Foot Care Clinics are offered at both Centres by the We Care Home Health Services. Clinics are held at Parkview Centre on the first Thursday morning of each month and at the Allandale Centre on the third Tuesday morning of the month. Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling the respective Centres.

Income Tax Clinics

The City of Barrie 55+ Centres in partnership with Revenue Canada is pleased to offer assistance with preparing tax returns. Beginning in February through to May, clinics are offered at Allandale, Parkview and Victoria Village Activity Centres. To book appointments please contact the centres directly.

What hours are you open? Answer
The 55+ Centres are open for older adults Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., with some scheduled programs and events on weekends and evenings. Summer hours may vary based on programs.
What does my membership in the 55+ Centres offer me? Answer
Everyone who participates in a membership program must be a registered member. Your membership entitles you to participate in all volunteer led programs and activities offered by both the Allandale and Parkview Centres.
What kind of programs do you offer? Answer
Our newsletter and calendar feature a complete listing of programs and are available for pick up at our Centres. We offer both in-centre and out-of-centre activities. See the program schedule in the Resources section for more information.
