June 2, 2026

Interior construction at 24 Maple Avenue is nearing completion. Millwork installations, vestibule framing and window installations are underway. Commissioning activities are also in progress, including the startup and testing of mechanical and electrical systems.

Equipment deliveries for Lakehead's lab spaces began in early May, with additional equipment and furniture scheduled to arrive during the week of June 28. Exterior construction work is expected to begin in mid-June, with completion anticipated by mid-August.

Construction at 5 Ross Street is progressing well. Demolition work has been completed, and the framing for new partitions and classroom entrances is nearing completion. Mechanical and electrical rough-ins are ongoing, with walls and ceilings remaining open to allow for continued installation and coordination.

May 11, 2026

Construction at 24 Maple Avenue continued to advance throughout April, bringing the future Lakehead University Barrie STEM Hub closer to completion. Ceilings have now been installed across the space, with only a few tiles left open to accommodate final mechanical and electrical connections. Floor finishes—including ceramic tile and epoxy—are nearly complete, with remaining work focused on the completion of the main entrances, landscaping and final interior finishes.

As of May 4, construction has fully begun on the 5 Ross Street location, formerly part of the Georgian College campus. Demolition is now underway to reconfigure the space to meet the Lakehead curriculum needs. Progress at this location includes installing new office window frames, drywall patching, ceiling-grid framing, and priming the walls throughout the back offices.

March 31, 2026

Construction at 24 Maple Avenue continues to advance efficiently. Drywall installation is now complete, and the first coat of paint has been applied in several areas. Drop ceiling installation is well underway and nearing completion within the classrooms. Mechanical, plumbing, and connecting to the building’s electrical system has been finalized, and contractors have transitioned to installing fixtures throughout the site. 

At the 5 Ross Street location, construction activities commenced in February and March, focusing on a vacant section of the building. Initial work has focused on demolition activities, including the removal of select interior partitions, ceilings, ductwork and electrical wiring to make way for the upcoming modifications to this space. 

February 19, 2026

Construction to renovate the space at 24 Maple Avenue began in mid-October 2025 and demolition of the interior space was complete in January 2026. 

Work at the 24 Maple Avenue location is moving along well, with rough-ins and interior partitions completed. Mechanical and electrical work continues and interior finish work is beginning. Demolition and renovations at the 5 Ross Street location is now underway.

The Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal is located at 20 Essa Road. This project consisted of building an inter-regional transit hub in Barrie's Allandale area and a Downtown Mini Hub to host transit services and connections through a more integrated public transit system, which have been operational as of September 21, 2025.
