2025 Barrie Airshow Weekend presented by Pratt Homes

• CF-18 Tactical Demonstration Team*

  A staple on the Canadian airshow scene since 1983, CF-18 demonstrations showcase the high level of skill, professionalism and teamwork inherent in the members of the RCAF, inspiring future aviators and highlighting the capabilities of Canada’s frontline fighter.

  The CF-18 performance at the 2025 Barrie Airshow will feature a non-aerobatic CF-18 Hornet tactical demonstration, flown with aircraft in an operational grey paint scheme. This year, tactical demonstrations are being be flown to enable the RCAF to focus its resources as it modernizes the fighter force, enhances its readiness to support ongoing domestic and international operations including its NORAD mission and more.

• Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute Team

  The Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute Team are Canada’s only military parachute demonstration team. With 15 demonstrators from the Canadian Army and the Canadian Rangers, the team demonstrates professionalism, dedication and teamwork, allowing them to perform complex parachute manoeuvres safely at airshows, sporting events and festivals across Canada.

  Established in 1971, the SkyHawks have represented Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces with pride, performing in front of over 75 million spectators world-wide under their signature Canadian Flag parachutes. The SkyHawks thrilling performance of daring manoeuvres brings their parachutes in close proximity to each other requiring a high level of skill, teamwork and physical fitness. This discipline of proximity parachute flying is known as Canopy Relative Work within the skydiving community.

• CH-146 Griffon Helicopter Demonstration from the 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron

  Enjoy a tactical demonstration from the CH-146 Griffon utility tactical-transport helicopter over Kempenfelt Bay. The aircraft supports the tactical transportation of troops and material, as well as search and rescue operations, surveillance and reconnaissance, training, casualty evacuations, and counter-drug operations.

  The Griffon features GPS-satellite navigation and Doppler-radar systems. It can be fitted with a variety of equipment including self-defense weapons, a powerful searchlight, and a hoist to extract people and cargo from almost any terrain.

• Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association

  The mission of the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association (CHAA) is to acquire, preserve, restore, display and demonstrate the Harvard and other training aircraft associated with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and the Royal Canadian Air Force.

  The Harvard played a significant role in the RCAF’s history during World War II. Dubbed “the pilot maker,” the single-engine Harvard was a familiar sight and sound at air bases across Canada. CHAA was created in 1985 from a passion to keep the legacy of these aircraft alive and honour those who trained in them and served their country.

  Based out of Tillsonburg, Ontario, CHAA’s three-ship formation flying honours the past and inspires the future.

• Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation

  The Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation (ECAF) is based out of Edenvale Aerodrome, located on Hwy 26 between Barrie and Collingwood. The airfield opened in October 1941 as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and served as No 1 Relief Field for Harvard operations at Camp Borden. 

  While the de Havilland DH82 Tiger Moth was used by the RCAF for elementary flight training, ECAF’s is actually the British version. It was manufactured by Morris Motors in Cowley, England in 1943, then served with the RAF and Armee de L’Air (French Air Force). It differs from the Canadian version as it doesn’t feature a canopy and has a tail skid instead of a tail wheel, requiring it to be operated from a grass strip.

  The PT-26 Cornell is the second of three airworthy aircraft operated by ECAF. Built in 1943, it is one of 1565 proudly manufactured in Canada by Fleet Aircraft Ltd for the RCAF during World War II.

• Jet Aircraft Museum – T-33 Red Knight

  The Jet Aircraft Museum is a charity started in 2008 when a group realized they could purchase CT-133 aircraft from the Canadian Department of Defence. 

  The group purchased a number of CT-133 aircraft from the Department of Defence and started the restoration process. Work on CT-133573 started in 2015. Members of the museum decided that they wanted to commemorate the Red Knight aircraft and pilots that flew the aircraft in the 1950's and 60's. The aircraft was painted and given a Certificate of Airworthiness in 2017.  

  The museum continues to look for additional heritage aircraft that were flown by the RCAF that the museum can acquire and restore.

• Northern Stars Aeroteam

  Drawing on their heritage as veteran RCAF pilots, Todd Farrell, Greg Hume-Powell and Mario Hamel are the Northern Stars Aeroteam. Flying the classic Pitts Special in tight, precision formations and wringing it out with exciting freestyle maneuvers, the Northern Stars are getting great reviews! The show starts off with a dramatic opposing pass followed by fast paced, solo surface-level aerobatics before being joined by the other two for precise loops, rolls and much more in tight, military style formation with billowing airshow smoke.

• Showcat & Wing Walking Demo

  Wing walker Sam Tryggvason has been wing walking at airshows across North America since 2014. A decade later, she is pleased to debut her roaring, smoke-bellowing, beautiful Grumman Showcat. 

  Pilot, Mike Tryggvason, has flown precision aerobatics at shows since 2011. Spectators are in for a treat as he skillfully demonstrates the Showcat’s capabilities in the surface-level Wing Walking Demonstration which includes a spectacular 10-minute smoke-on aerobatic sequence to showcase the ultimate ‘trust walk,’  a demonstration of Crew Resource Management at its finest, and the skills that have led to modern-day air-to-air refueling. 

  This duo is out of this world! Sam is a satellite collision avoidance engineer who supports the continuation of science missions in space and Mike is an airline pilot and mechanical engineer who has built rockets and designed experimental equipment that was operated on the International Space Station!

• Solo Aerobatic Pilot Trevor Rafferty

  Trevor has never known a life without aviation; his earliest memories are of flying with his father in Piper Cub and Aeronca Champ.

  Aircraft out of the little grass field near Hamilton, Ontario, Trevor earned his licences and ratings while working in the steel industry in Hamilton. Today he is a successful, international competitor and holds an un-restricted low level airshow waiver.

  As a working class guy, and with a desire to compete in the elite world of competition aerobatics and airshow flying, Trevor had to get creative. Using his skill in the trades that he grew up in, he started building his own aircraft, each one being more complex and higher performance than its predecessor. His current mount (number 5) being the biggest, baddest of the bunch.

  The Pitts model 12 is a traditional looking biplane with a 1930's barnstormer appeal. With 400 horsepower and extremely light weight, it has as much or more performance than most modern factory-built airplanes and it is hand built, one of a kind.

  At Timmermans Legends of Flight, their mission is to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and ingenuity of the heroic men and women who flew and supported first generation fighter aircraft. They are dedicated to preserving and showcasing these historic relics, educating future generations about the significance of this era, and ensuring that the valorous stories associated with these iconic planes live on. Through their collection, they seek to inspire a sense of awe, appreciation, and respect for the courageous aviators and their lasting impact on aviation history. 

  Founded in 2021 by Annie and Peter Timmermans, Timmermans Legends of Flight is more than just a testament to their love for aviation—it’s a tribute to the enduring spirit of human ingenuity and perseverance, a legacy they hope will soar for generations to come.

Airshow Viewing Information

• Viewing from the Shore

  The best locations to view the show were at Heritage Park, Centennial Park, Will Dwyer Park, South Shore Park, Allandale Station Park, Minet’s Point Park, or any of the small parks along the north and south shores of Kempenfelt Bay.

• Viewing from the Water

  To ensure the safety of both the public and the airshow participants during this exciting event, public viewing by boat was permitted east of the safety line between Brentwood Marine and Johnson’s Beach Park. Boats and water-based activities were restricted west of that line. See "Public Notifications & Restrictions" information below for dates and times. 

Public Notifications & Restrictions

• Water Access Restrictions

  For the safety of the public and airshow performers, a safety line was formed from Brentwood Marine to Johnson’s Beach Park. Water access and water-based activities were restricted in the area west of the line (including Centennial Park and Minet’s Point Park) during the following times*:  

  • Friday, June 6, 12–6pm
  • Saturday, June 7, 12–6pm
  • Sunday, June 8, 12–6pm
     

  Restricted activities included boating, access in and out of the marina and boat launches, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, etc. The safety line will be enforced by the Barrie Police and their service partners on Lake Simcoe.

• Boat Launch & Marina Access

  The Tiffin Boat Launch were closed throughout the Airshow weekend (June 6–8). It reopened at 6pm on June 8. 

  The boat launch at the City of Barrie Marina was available 8:30–10am and after 6pm daily June 6–8. For Marina patrons, access in and out of the Marina by water was not permitted 11:30am–6pm daily June 6–8. 

  To reduce congestion, boaters were encouraged to consider using nearby public launches, including Innisfil, Orillia area, Shanty Bay Oro Line 2, and Oro Line 9. 

• No Drone Zone

  Operating a drone or any radio-controlled aircraft inside a restricted air space without authorization is a serious safety concern and is strictly prohibited. You could face significant penalties, so during airshows please leave your drone at home and enjoy the show. Airspace safety at the Barrie Airshow enhanced with counter-drone technology from D-Fend Solutions.

• Personal Safety

  For your personal safety, please consider:

  • Wearing ear protection, especially for children
  • Wearing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
  • Hydrating often
    There will be many food vendors on site, and water refill stations located in Meridian Place and Centennial Park
