City’s “Parks Wellness Weekend” invites residents to connect with nature to support well-being

(BarrieON) – Barrie residents are invited to the City’s Parks Wellness Weekend, taking place June 5 and 6, 2026. This free, two-day event offers residents opportunities to learn new and proven ways to support their personal wellness through meaningful connections with nature in Barrie’s parks.

Friday, June 5 – Family Fun Friday

The weekend begins on Friday, June 5 with Family Fun Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunnidale Park (227 Sunnidale Road). This family‑friendly day of outdoor activities encourages everyone to get outside, play, create, and connect. Participants can explore the Nature Play Trailer, enjoy drop-in activities offered in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, and take part in nature‑inspired art opportunities. The City is also offering a free interactive program called Forest Fables & Family Fun, featuring storytelling, games, sensory activities, forest therapy, and a hands‑on craft (registration is required for this program).

Saturday, June 6 – Serenity Saturday

On Saturday, June 6, residents can register for a variety of free wellness sessions focused on relaxation and connecting with nature.  Offerings include restorative yoga, forest therapy, sound therapy, nature‑inspired art, and mindfulness. The sessions are offered at various locations and times, and there are limited spots available. Registration is required (the schedule of sessions and registration links are available at barrie.ca/ParksWellnessWeekend).

Parks Wellness Weekend is inspired by the work of PaRx  Canada’s national nature prescription program  which supports health-care professionals to encourage time in nature as part of overall health and well-being.
