The arts community in Barrie is thriving and growing. Explore the programs we have in place to support and showcase artists.
Barrie Arts Awards
The Barrie Arts Awards honour individuals and organizations for their contributions to the arts sector. The annual gala occurs in November and features presentations, performances, and celebrates the sector and winners. Recipients work, live, attend school, exhibit, or perform within Barrie.
Emerging Artists Program
In partnership with the Downtown Barrie Business Association and Canadian Musicians Cooperative, Inc. (CMCI) the Emerging Artists Program supports downtown revitalization efforts by creating a lively and dynamic atmosphere in the city's core through live music performances while harnessing the downtown community as a platform to incubate and showcase emerging musicians. Emerging Artists perform in the community supporting festivals and events, busking and helping to animate the communities they serve.
The Busking Program works in conjunction with the Emerging Artist Program to animate downtown Barrie. This pilot program provides the opportunity for performing artists that are not eligible for the Emerging Artist Program. This pilot runs in 2022 and be evaluated with participant feedback for 2023.
Looking to book one of our buskers? Feel free to email Amanda.Dyke@barrie.ca and our team will connect you with the best possible artists for your needs.
Arts & Culture Investment Program
The mandate of the Arts & Culture Investment Program is to promote and assist in the development of the arts in all its diversity for the enjoyment and benefit of all Barrie residents and visitors. Congratulations to the following successful applicants to the 2022 Arts & Culture Investment Program.
