Project Updates

October 2022

This project was completed in September. In October 2022, the City of Barrie received a Healthy Water Award for this project at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority's Conservation Awards.

Project Features

The specific improvements at the pond included:

  • installation of a storage and infiltration system beneath the existing pond, which means less flooding, less erosion, a reduction in phosphorus, and a better environment for fish in Kidd’s Creek
  • new trees and shrubs planted, as well as seeding with native to the area seed mixes
  • regrading of the pond’s banks back to its original shape
  • naturalizing the pond to help attract pollinators

Following construction, the site will be restored to existing conditions through landscape planting, seeding and sodding activities. This pond will become naturalized and the City will no longer maintain weekly grass cutting.
