About this event

Simcoe Guitar closes out the summer with a double bill of solo guitar, bringing two internationally acclaimed artists to Barrie for one evening: American guitarist Lenny Ranallo and Finnish guitarist Teuvo Taimioja. Each performs a full solo recital, offering two distinct voices on the instrument in a single sitting.

Lenny Ranallo is a guitarist and composer based between Philadelphia and Toronto, trained at Oberlin Conservatory and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He made his orchestral debut as a concerto soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic and has gone on to perform across North America and Europe, drawing on influences from Bach to Coltrane. Alongside his performing career, he's an active composer and champion of new guitar repertoire.

Teuvo Taimioja is a Finnish guitarist known for his work across contemporary and early music, having premiered close to 30 new works for the instrument. He is founder and artistic director of the KitaraNova festival and released his debut album, Nova, featuring newly commissioned Finnish repertoire. His playing has taken him across Finland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Scotland. We are proud to bring Teuvo to Barrie for his Canadian concert debut!

This concert builds on a season of momentum for Simcoe Guitar, following a sold-out fundraiser and inaugural Festival in January, followed by a dynamic spring concert & masterclass with ChromaDuo.

Two guitarists, two solo programmes, one afternoon not to miss!
