Applications open for the 2025 Recreation and Sport Community Grant

Applications will be accepted until June 6, 2025

(Barrie, ON) – The City of Barrie is accepting applications from eligible local organizations for the 2025 Recreation and Sport Community Grant, which provides funding to enhance access to recreation and sport opportunities in Barrie.

“Some of my fondest memories growing up involve being part of a team, learning new skills, and simply having fun in community spaces,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “Recreation and sport do more than keep us active, they bring us together and help us grow. That’s why I’m so proud of the 2025 Recreation and Sport Community Grant. It supports the people and programs that make those experiences possible for others. I hope many of our incredible local organizations will apply and continue to make Barrie a place where everyone can thrive.”

Organizations can apply for funding in two categories: programming to support new or innovative recreation and sport opportunities, or capital improvement projects. For either funding category, applicants must be an incorporated not-for-profit organization, a community association operating as a not-for-profit or a registered charitable organization. For-profit enterprises may apply in collaboration with an eligible not-for-profit provided they receive no direct financial benefit.

Since its inception in early 2022, the City has awarded over $690,000 in funding to advance new and innovative programs and infrastructure improvements that focus on the health and well-being of residents.

There is no prescribed dollar amount limit on application requests. Applications will be accepted until June 6, 2025, and grants will be awarded in late June.

Interested organizations can learn more about the grant and apply via barrie.ca/CommunityGrant.

The City of Barrie also invites applications from citizens who wish to be considered for appointment to the Adjudication Panel to evaluate the Recreation & Sport Community Grant applications. Two community members are to join the panel for a term ending December 31, 2025. Interested residents can apply here. The application deadline is Friday, June 6, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
