Applications open for the 2026 Recreation and Sport Community Grant

Applications will be accepted until June 12, 2026

(Barrie, ON) – The City of Barrie is accepting applications from eligible local organizations for the 2026 Recreation and Sport Community Grant, which provides funding to enhance access to recreation and sport opportunities in Barrie.

“Recreation and sport play a vital role in building a healthy, connected community. The Recreation and Sport Community Grant helps break down barriers and expand access to opportunities that keep residents active, engaged, and supported,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “By investing in local programs and organizations, we’re making it easier for people of all ages and abilities to participate and experience the benefits of recreation right here in Barrie. I encourage our outstanding community organizations to apply and continue helping make Barrie a place where everyone can thrive.”

There is no set limit on funding requests. Applications are being accepted until Friday, June 12, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. Grants will be awarded in late June.

Organizations can apply for funding in two categories:

  1. Programming to support new or innovative recreation and sport opportunities, or
  2. Capital improvement projects.

For either funding category, applicants must be an incorporated not-for-profit organization, a community association operating as a not-for-profit or a registered charitable organization. For-profit enterprises may apply in partnership with an eligible not-for-profit, provided they receive no direct financial benefit. Applicants’ planned programming, event, or activity must occur within the City of Barrie.

Since its inception in early 2022, the City has awarded over $830,000 in funding to advance new and innovative programs and infrastructure improvements that focus on the health and well-being of residents.

Residents are also invited to apply to join the Adjudication Panel that evaluates Recreation and Sport Community Grant applications. Two community members will be appointed to the panel for a term ending December 31, 2026. Applications are due Friday, June 12, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
