Route 8 adjustments being made to align with new location
(Barrie, ON) – The Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal will be operational starting on Sunday, September 21, 2025. The new terminal is located at 20 Essa Road.
Barrie Transit Route 8 will change to better align with the new Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal starting September 21. Route 8 will adjust to service the new terminal more directly and to provide new routing onto Lakeshore Drive, Springdale Drive, and Cundles Road East. For detailed information about these changes, visit myridebarrie.ca.
Downtown transit services will continue through bus stops and sheltered waiting areas located adjacent to 24 Maple Avenue. Downtown transit service levels will be maintained and will continue to provide direct access routes to and from the downtown area.
The downtown terminal at 24 Maple Avenue will close on September 28, one week after the new terminal opens. Once closed, the downtown terminal will be renovated and transformed into a campus for Lakehead University's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) hub. The STEM hub is scheduled to open in fall 2026.
Further details about the innovative features and elements of the Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal will be shared at the official grand opening event, happening later next week.
The Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal and Downtown Mini Hub project was supported and funded by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, and the City of Barrie through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
