(Barrie, ON) – As part of the City of Barrie’s ongoing efforts to reduce flooding risk and upgrade downtown infrastructure to support growth, the next phase of the Sophia Trunk Storm Sewers (Owen & Sophia) project will begin on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The Worsley Street intersection at Owen Street, and Owen Street south of Worsley, are expected to reopen on October 15, 2025. The following day, Thursday, October 16, the closure of Owen Street north of Worsley will be extended to include the McDonald Street intersection. This closure is expected to remain in place until December 12, 2025.
All vehicles will be restricted from travelling through the closure. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained (with intermittent interruptions), and detour routes will be in place. Access for emergency vehicles to respond within the closure will be maintained.
Work north of McDonald Street is scheduled to begin in spring 2026. The project remains on track for completion in summer 2027.
The City thanks residents, commuters, and local businesses for their continued patience and support.
