Nominations now open for 2026 Municipal Election

(Barrie, ON) — Nominations for the 2026 Municipal Election are now open for the offices of Mayor and City Councillor, as well as for School Board Trustee positions with the Simcoe County District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire Viamonde, and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.

To file a nomination, candidates are asked to submit the required documents in-person to Legislative & Court Services (1st floor, City Hall, 70 Collier Street), along with the applicable fee. The required documents include:

  • Nomination Form;
  • Endorsements from at least 25 eligible Barrie electors (Mayor and Council candidates only);
  • Declaration of Qualification;
  • FOI Release Form authorizing the posting of candidate contact information on the City’s website.  

Nominations will be accepted Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from May 1 to August 20. The final day to file is Friday, August 21 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
