Barrie, ON – Yonge Street will be closed between St. Paul’s Crescent and Mapleview Drive East for three days, beginning Tuesday, July 14, 2026, and reopening Friday, July 17, 2026. The short-term closure is required by the contractor to complete a critical deep sanitary sewer connection. Work will take place continuously, 24 hours a day, to reduce the overall construction timeline and reduce traffic impacts for residents and drivers.
Through traffic will not be permitted during the closure. Motorists will be diverted via St. Paul's Crescent to reach Mapleview Drive East or connect back to Yonge Street. Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and follow all posted signage.
Transit will not be affected by this road closure.
This work is part of the City of Barrie’s Multi‑Modal Active Transportation Master Plan, which identifies Yonge Street as a key corridor needed to support growth to 2031. Transportation improvements include reconstruction and widening of Yonge Street (Mapleview Drive East to Lockhart Road) to include five lanes, a cycle-track and a sidewalk.
