TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the City of Barrie passed Community Benefits Charge By-law No. 2023-073 on the 21st day of June, 2023, under Section 37 of the Planning Act, 1990.

AND TAKE NOTICE that any person or organization may appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal under Subsection 37 (17) of the Planning Act, in respect of the Community Benefits Charge By-laws, by filing with the Clerk of the City of Barrie on or before Monday, July 31st, 2023, a notice of appeal setting out the objection to the By-law and the reasons supporting the objection. The appellant is advised to contact the Ontario Land Tribunal (formerly the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal and Ontario Municipal Board) to access required forms and applicable fees.

The charges in the aforementioned by-law will apply to all development or redevelopment that meets any individual criterion in the Planning Act. The community benefits charge will apply to eligible developments or redevelopment with buildings or structures containing five or more storey and adding at least ten residential units. The community benefit charge is 4% of the value of land subject to development or redevelopment. The community benefits charge will contribute to City-wide capital costs for CBC Reviews, Master Plans & Studies, Parking, Parks Projects, Housing, Growth-Related Climate Initiatives, Public Art and Library Services.

The community benefits charges imposed under the By-law came into effect on the 22nd day of June, 2023. Copies of the complete Community Benefits Charges By-law are available for examination in the offices of the municipality located at 70 Collier Street, Barrie, on the website at barrie.ca/developmentcharges or be requested by emailing developmentcharges@barrie.ca.
