(Barrie, ON) – Would you like to see your artwork displayed in City Hall? The City of Barrie is now accepting submissions for works of art to be featured in City Hall’s First Floor Gallery.
The First Floor Gallery is located in Barrie’s City Hall at 70 Collier Street. This exhibition space is located on the first floor, between the Service Barrie and Legislative Services counters. Opened in 2015, the gallery space profiles local artwork. The space is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). The First Floor Gallery provides the City an opportunity to serve the arts sector by profiling the works of local artists and beautifying a public area within City Hall, while providing artists with paid exhibition opportunities.
Artists, collectives, art schools, organizations and clubs are encouraged to submit works for exhibition. The First Floor Gallery is available for two-month exhibition periods. Successful submissions from this process will have artwork displayed in late 2025 and throughout 2026. Selected artists/organizations will be compensated.
The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on August 25, 2025. Interested artists can fill out the form to apply. Applicants are asked to submit the following:
- Letter/email of interest
- Relevant work/exhibition history, if applicable
- Name of the exhibit with a brief artist statement
- Images of all work that are proposed to be exhibited
- A list of works that includes title, year of completion, medium, and dimensions (please note that any works on paper will need to be framed, and works on canvas or panels must be wired to enable display in the gallery).
Submissions will be reviewed by a subcommittee from the Barrie Arts Advisory Committee. Efforts will be made to present a variety of work from different artists and mediums. The First Floor Gallery is a public space visited by residents, visitors, and staff, and as such, all exhibitions must be appropriate for viewing by all audiences, including families.
