The First Floor Gallery was created to profile the incredible artwork of local artists. This exhibition space is located at City Hall, between the Service Barrie and Legislative Services counters, and is curated by Cultural Development staff with the assistance of local visual artists. The space is open to the public from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Interested artists are encouraged to apply to exhibit their work in the space. Applications are accepted all year and are considered as space becomes available. Applicants will be contacted regarding exhibition opportunities upon receipt of their applications.
Guiding Principles
How to Apply
Applicants are asked to submit the following to Amanda.Dyke@barrie.ca:
- A letter of interest,
- A previous work summary or resume and
- A series of 10–12 images of their work as image files or via link.
- A list of works should be attached that includes title, year of completion, medium and the dimensions.
- The name of the exhibit and a brief artist statement (2–3 paragraphs) that can be used in promotional materials.
Please note in your submission any special requirements for your exhibit. For the purposes of exhibition, any works on paper will need to be framed. Works on canvas or panels must be wired to enable hanging. We encourage artists working in a variety of mediums to submit to the process and we will work with them to accommodate exhibiting their works (e.g. fibre arts, mixed media, sculpture).
Application Review
Submissions are reviewed as they are received by a committee of cultural development and public art staff. These individuals will act as a jury panel to determine the appropriateness of each submission for display in City Hall in accordance with the program's guiding principles.
