Business/institutional properties must register by March 31 to receive waste collection starting September 8

Barrie, ON – Barrie business and institutional property owners must register by March 31 to receive municipal waste collection starting September 8, when the City moves to automated carts. With the transition to carts comes a new waste collection program for business and institutional properties, which includes the introduction of organics and new waste collection limits.

Each business and institutional property is eligible for one set of carts. Carts will be assigned to the property (not individual units), and property owners are responsible for the registration and management of municipal waste collection services. If business/institutional property owners miss the March 31 deadline, they can still register but they may experience an interruption in service. To register for business and institutional curbside waste collection visit barrie.ca/CommercialWasteCollectionRegistration.

Owners of residential, business, institutional, or mixed-use properties within the downtown BIA must also register by March 31 to receive municipal waste collection starting September 8. Registering will ensure the individual needs of each property in the BIA requesting municipal waste service are considered and facilitate the delivery of new carts.

Residential properties outside of the BIA do not need to register for cart collection; these properties will receive the default set of carts (120L organics and 240L garbage), unless the property owner submits a request to substitute the standard cart for a smaller garbage cart, or additional carts for multiple residential units. Requests will be accepted until March 31 online at barrie.ca/CurbsideCollectionChanges, by calling Service Barrie at 705-726-4242 or in person at Service Barrie (1st floor City Hall). Residents are reminded that residential recycling is not managed by the City.

Garbage and organics carts are on display at select City facilities until the end of the month. Carts will be delivered to properties this summer.
