Closure of Huronia Road and Lockhart Road intersection required for culvert and sanitary sewer installation

Barrie, ON – Contractors will be implementing a full closure of the Huronia and Lockhart Road intersection starting July 2, 2026 to September 30, 2026. The closure is required to complete major culvert installations, intersection improvements, road reconstruction and deep sanitary sewer work along Huronia Road.

Access to businesses and residents within the closure will be maintained at all times. Through traffic will not be permitted during the closure. 

North and southbound traffic will be detoured via McKay Road / Victoria Street, Yonge Street, Mapleview Drive East, to Huronia Road. East and westbound traffic will be detoured via Yonge Street, Mapleview Drive East, Huronia Road, Saunders Road, Rawson Avenue, to Lockhart Road. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted signage.

Transit ON Demand stops 977, 986, 979, and 978 will be placed out-of-service and stops 973 and 974 will temporarily reassigned to Zone T, with service limited to Barrie South Go. For more information, visit MyRideBarrie.ca

This work is part of the City of Barrie’s Multi‑Modal Active Transportation Master Plan, which identifies Huronia Road as a key corridor needed to support growth to 2031.
