MVT Canadian Bus Inc. and Union ratify deal, avoiding transit disruption

(BarrieON) – The union representing transit operators (Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1775) have ratified an agreement with the City of Barrie’s Transit contractor MVT Canadian Bus Inc. MVT Canadian Bus Inc. and the union reached a tentative deal on Friday night, avoiding a potential labour disruption to Barrie Transit services.

As a result of the agreement, Barrie Transit services will continue to operate as scheduled, and customers can expect no interruption to conventional or specialized transit services.

Barrie Transit is operated by MVT Canadian Bus Inc. under contract with the City. While the City is not the employer, it has been working closely with the contractor and monitoring the situation to help ensure continuity of this important service for the community.

The City is appreciative of MVT Canadian Bus Inc. employees who operate Barrie Transit and who are committed to getting riders to and from their destinations safely and efficiently.

“We appreciate the efforts of both parties to reach an agreement and avoid a service disruption for our community,” said Brent Forsyth, Director of Transit and Parking Strategy. “Thank you to our Barrie Transit riders for your patience and understanding while negotiations were underway.”
