Excerpt

The 2019 provincial Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe has forecasted that the City of Barrie will grow to 298,000 people and 150,000 jobs by 2051. The City of Barrie (“City”) is updating its Water Master Plan to determine the drinking water servicing requirements to accommodate that growth. The study area encompasses the entire city boundary, shown on the map.

This study will:

  • Assess the existing drinking water system including surface water treatment plant, groundwater wells, reservoirs, elevated tanks, booster pump stations and watermains to identify existing capacity constraints and opportunities for improvement;
  • Ensure water services meet the current and future community needs by providing long-term and integrated water servicing strategies to 2051 and beyond; and
  • Recommend future infrastructure projects that will provide the required water service.

The City invites anyone with an interest in this study to stay engaged and get involved. We encourage all those interested to visit the project website at buildingbarrie.ca, and:

  • Sign-up to the project mailing list;
  • Stay up to date on project news;
  • Provide comments throughout the duration of the study;
  • Use the online engagement tools on the project website; and
  • Participate in a future Public Information Centre meeting.
