(Barrie, ON) – The following City of Barrie services will be affected on Labour Day—Monday, September 1:
- City Hall will be closed on Monday, September 1.
- Recreation/Community Centres will be closed on Monday, September 1.
- Barrie Transit will run on a Sunday service schedule on Monday, September 1.
Service reminders:
- Curbside Collection: There will be no change to the waste collection schedule on Monday, September 1; curbside collection will occur as regularly scheduled. Visit barrie.ca/CurbsideCollection for more information on curbside collection services and to look up your collection schedule.
- Parking: Downtown parking (on-street and lots) is free on statutory holidays, including Labour Day (September 1). A digital waterfront permit is required to park for free at specific waterfront areas. Waterfront parking, and parking in the hybrid and marina lots, is enforced 24/7/365. - Fireworks: Fireworks are not permitted on Labour Day, as per the Regulatory Matters By-law. Without a business licence for fireworks/pyrotechnic display and/or an applicable Special Event Permit, fireworks are only permitted on Victoria Day, Canada Day and New Year’s Day, and for the duration of the Lunar New Year and Diwali.
- Beaches: A reminder about lifeguards at Johnson’s Beach and Centennial Beach:
- Johnson’s Beach: Lifeguards are off duty for the season (as of August 22, 2025).
- Centennial Beach: Lifeguards remain on duty until August 29, 2025.
Parents and guardians are reminded that children require direct supervision at the beach. Always practise water safety.
