(Barrie, ON) – The City is advising residents that an error has been identified on Voter Information Letters recently mailed to Ward 10 voters, which caused the incorrect ward number to be listed on the letter. Updated Ward 10 letters are currently being mailed and are expected to begin arriving on Monday, October 5. The updated Voter Information Letter envelopes will have yellow address panels and be clearly marked: "Updated Voter Information."
The original PINs issued to Ward 10 voters have been deactivated and cannot be used to vote. Only the PIN in the updated Voter Information Letter will be accepted, ensuring each eligible voter can cast only one ballot.
"An error by the City’s third-party print vendor caused the incorrect ward number to be listed on Voter Information Letters mailed to Ward 10 residents. This issue is limited to Ward 10; all other Voter Information Letters are valid and accurate," says Wendy Cooke, City Clerk. "The original Ward 10 PINs have been deactivated and cannot be used to vote. Updated letters for Ward 10 voters are being issued as quickly as possible to ensure Ward 10 voters can vote securely using only the PIN in their updated letter.”
To support Ward 10 voters, the City has also added an additional Voter Assistance Centre at the Surface Water Treatment Plant (20 Royal Parkside Drive, Barrie) during the voting period. For the Voter Assistance Centre times and dates, visit barrie.ca/VoterInfo.
Key actions for Ward 10 residents:
- Destroy your existing letter that lists the incorrect ward number. The letter is no longer valid.
- Watch for a new letter, marked "Updated Voter Information", and printed on yellow paper, in the mail. Updated Voter Information Letters will begin arriving on October 5.
- Use the updated letter and its PIN to vote during the voting period. This issue does not affect voters' ability to cast a ballot, as voting does not open until October 16, 2026, at 10 a.m.
This issue only impacts Ward 10 residents. No action is required from voters in any other ward – their existing Voter Information Letters and PINs remain valid. Residents can view their ward using the interactive ward boundaries map.
