This roadway supports the new Harvie Road / Big Bay Point Road Highway 400 Crossing and will improve traffic flow across the south end of Barrie.

The Bryne Drive extension is split into a north segment (Harvie Road to Essa Road) and a south segment (Harvie Road to Caplan Avenue).  The Bryne Drive North Extension project is currently in the design phase.

Project Updates

May 16, 2024

  • The first two lifts of asphalt have been placed on Bryne Drive from Caplan to just beyond the Bryne cul-de-sac, and on the Bryne cul-de-sac
  • Traffic on Bryne Drive is currently staged to one lane in each direction between Caplan and the Bryne Drive cul-de-sac
  • Sidewalk installation at the south limits is ongoing
  • Preparation for the bike trail at the south limits is ongoing
  • New street light poles have been installed
  • Grading and boulevard preparation are ongoing

Project Features

The Environmental Assessment and report were completed prior to detailed design commencement. The Stage 1 and Stage 2 Archaeological Assessment were completed as part of the greater Harvie Road/Highway 400 Crossing area improvements

  • Design for improved traffic flow parallel to Highway 400 with minimal environmental impacts
  • Construction of a new 5-lane roadway, complete with off-road bike lanes and sidewalks
  • Construction of a new sanitary sewer
  • Construction of a new watermain
  • New stormwater management ponds
  • Full landscape plan, including tree plantings

Schedule

Construction of the Bryne Drive North Extension (Harvie Road to Essa Road) is expected to commence in 2032.
