In 2016, a Stage 1 Archaeological Assessment was conducted as part of the Hewitt’s Class Environmental Assessment, addressing proposed arterial road widening and two grade-separated railway crossings within the Hewitt’s Secondary Plan Area. This initial assessment identified areas within the project scope that may have archaeological potential, requiring a Stage 2 assessment. The field work portion of the Stage 2 archaeological assessment has now been completed, confirming that no archaeological resources are present within the proposed impact area.
While most of the Stage 2 assessment work is now complete, the infrastructure work near St. Paul Cemetery requires review from the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. The City’s archaeological consultant is actively collaborating with the Ministry.
