Residents on Marta Crescent and Kierland Road have experienced persistent standing water along the rear of their properties over the past several years. These residential lots back onto a section of the Bear Creek Wetland, located north of Summerset Drive, which is designated as a Provincially Significant Wetland. To mitigate the risk of future flooding of the residents' backyards, this project will regrade the affected rear yards adjacent to the wetland.

Project Updates

April 17, 2025

Detailed design is well underway. Construction is scheduled for 2026. An April 2025 Letter will be distributed to residents.

Project Phasing

The project has been phased as follows.

Phase 1
(Completed Work)
  • Install temporary cofferdam & dewatering measures along rear of Marta Crescent backyards.
  • Objective: Provide short-term flood relief for Marta residents.
Phase 2
(Current Work)
  • Place fill in the backyards of Marta Crescent and Kierland Road residential lots that are adjacent to the Bear Creek Wetland and remove the temporary sandbag cofferdam.
  • Objective: Provide long-term flood relief for Marta and Kierland Residents.
Phase 3
(Future Work)
  • Bear Creek Wetland Channel Restoration and BR09 SWM Facility restoration.
  • Objective: Provide a long-term solution to elevated water levels in the Bear Creek Wetland and restore the functionality of the BR09 SWM Facility
Phase 4
(Future Work)
  • Upstream Watercourse Erosion Mitigation.
  • Objective: Complete a geomorphic assessment of the upstream Bear Creek watercourse system within the Ardagh Bluffs to identify and complete erosion mitigation projects. The purpose of the projects is to reduce the amount of sediment being generated from the active erosion sites and deposited into the Bear Creek wetland. Reducing upstream erosion will extend the lifespan of the wetland channel and reduce future maintenance of the channel and the BR09 SWM Facility outlet structure.

Phase 2 Scope & Limits
