This construction project is being led by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and is the final phase of the replacement of three bridges on Highway 400 at Dunlop Street, Anne Street and Sunnidale Road. During this approximately 4-year project, work will take place to construct a new expanded bridge crossing at Dunlop Street over Highway 400 and expand the interchange to accommodate future widening of Highway 400.

Project Updates

September 30, 2025

The MTO's contractor will close a single westbound lane of Dunlop Street from east of Anne Street to Hart Drive. The closure is expected to be in place from 6am on Monday, October 6 until Friday, October 10 at 5pm. This closure is required to complete lane widening and storm sewer works.

Project Details

The work includes:

  • Replacement of the Dunlop Street bridge using staged construction methods to maintain travel on Dunlop Street throughout construction (i.e. new bridge will begin construction south of the existing bridge);
  • Lengthening the new Dunlop Street bridge to accommodate the future widening of Highway 400;
  • Widening the new Dunlop Street bridge to accommodate additional lanes on Dunlop Street as per the approved City of Barrie municipal class environmental assessment (i.e. 6-through lanes and active transportation infrastructure);
  • Realignment of all interchange ramps including intersection improvements;
  • Highway 400 median barrier replacement and drainage improvements;
  • Construction of a new stormwater management dry pond in the northeast quadrant of the bridge;
  • Replacement of two culverts along Dyments Creek;
  • Replacement of one culvert along Bunkers Creek;
  • Pavement resurfacing of Highway 400 from south of Dunlop Street to south of Sunnidale Road; and
  • Construction of a new noise wall along the Highway 400/Dunlop Street northbound on-ramp (i.e. at termination of Henry Street).

Upon completion of construction, Highway 400 will be reinstated back to a 6-lane configuration.
