A new bridge has been constructed at the crossing of Sunnidale Road over Highway 400. This construction project was led by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) as part of the replacement of three bridges on Highway 400 at Dunlop Street, Anne Street and Sunnidale Road. The project included significant roadwork on Highway 400, generally from Anne Street to Bayfield Street. The crossing was closed from Shirley Avenue to Wellington Street West for the full duration of construction.

Schedule
Summer 2023 | Construction start |
End of 2024 | Anticipated construction end |
Project Features
The MTO project included the following:
- Demolishing the existing Sunnidale Road bridge
- Replacing the bridge with a larger structure including new sidewalks and a wider bridge deck to improve traffic operations and active transportation
- Major work on Highway 400 to make way for the new bridge, which is large enough to accommodate a wider Highway 400 in the future
- Paving the Highway 400 and Bayfield Street interchange
Vehicular & Pedestrian Impacts
Vehicles and pedestrians were unable to cross Highway 400 at Sunnidale Road. Vehicles were directed through a signed route around the construction zone, while access for residents within the closure limits was maintained. Notification and directional signs were in place along the signed detour route, generally via Cundles Road, Anne Street, and Wellington Street as shown below:
