This project includes lining 1,400 metres of an existing 500 mm diameter concrete pressure pipe watermain on Huronia Road between Big Bay Point Road and Little Avenue due to deterioration.
Assessments have identified corrosion and deterioration on parts of the large watermain, which presented risk of significant failures. As part of a proactive approach to maintaining infrastructure, the City will line this watermain to prevent future issues.
This work helps extend the life of the watermain, supports reliable water service, and reduces the risk of emergency repairs and disruptions in the future.
Project Updates
July 3, 2026
The contractor continues to install new residential watermain services along Huronia Road, between Little and Herrell. Upon completion, the contractor will begin installing new commercial water services, water valves and fire hydrants between Big Bay Point and Herrell. This work will continue until early August. Preparations for watermain lining activities are ongoing.
To accommodate this work, traffic on Huronia Road will continue to be restricted to a single southbound lane only between Little and Big Bay Point. Businesses will remain open with access from Little Avenue. Closure and detour details are available at barrie.ca/RoadClosures.
Project Phases
Phase 1: Lining Big Bay Point Drive to Herrell Avenue
Work includes: Water service transfers between Herrell Avenue and Little (required prior to lining activities), small open cut watermain section (Big Bay Point Road to 30 m north), lining and watermain commissioning.
Phase 2: Lining Herrell Avenue to Little Avenue
Work includes: Lining and watermain commissioning.
