Marketing & Communications Department

The City strives to inform the public, employees and media about City news, programs and services, and to actively engage stakeholders in creating a stronger, more inclusive community.

Staff work with all departments, the Mayor, CAO and City Council to develop internal and external strategic communications plans, marketing and promotional materials, and community engagement opportunities.

Key messages and opportunities are shared through traditional media and digital tools managed by the Marketing & Communications department, including the following:

*Invest Barrie and Creative Barrie social media channels are also managed by the Marketing & Communications department. 

Marketing involves paid advertising (radio, tv, print, etc.) and design/web work. The department provides multimedia & graphic design support including the development of promotional materials (posters, ads, brochures, videos, graphics etc.).

Communications involves creating communications plans that determine the most appropriate way to deliver messages. Departmental responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership on the development and implementation of internal communications programs.
  • Managing critical communications issues as included in the role of Emergency Information Officer.
  • Managing the use of the City's intranet, corporate website, and social media from a corporate perspective.
  • Conducting all aspects of media relations, including the preparation of media releases, advisories, advertising, and media monitoring.
