Committees & Task Forces

Members of Barrie City Council are also members standing committees and select reference committees. In addition, City Council establishes committees and task forces to ensure further opportunities for public input into community decision-making.

Mandate: To provide advice and perspectives associated with policies, programs and facilities, while promoting: a safe, convenient, sustainable and accessible active transportation system; a sustainable, efficient, healthy and resilient environment and community.
Type: Reference Committee
Mandate: To study and report to the General Committee on specific subject matters.
Type: Task Force
Mandate: To promote the facilitation of a stronger understanding of the needs of the City’s racialized populations and guide anti-racism actions and activities in Barrie.
Type: Advisory Committee
Mandate: To advise City Council and staff on all matters regarding the arts and culture in the City of Barrie.

Mandate: The Barrie Public Art Committee’s (BPAC) goal is to enhance Barrie with art, and encourage residents and visitors alike to visit public spaces. BPAC secures art by commissioning new works, facilitating donations, and organizing temporary installations.

Mandate: Makes decisions on applications for consents and minor variances.

Mandate: To help facilitate the development of Barrie, in the Communities in Bloom National Municipal Beautification contest, with a focus on flowers, landscaping, gardens, beautification and environmental awareness.

Mandate: To study and report to the General Committee on specific subject matters.

Mandate: To hear and determine all applications filed in accordance with section 88.33 and 88.35 of the Municipal Elections Act.
