2026 Pavement Holding Strategies

July 31, 2026

Davidson Street (Grove to Gunn)

The contractor has begun curb removal and replacement work along Davidson Street. Residents directly affected by this work will receive advance notice prior to construction activities occurring in front of their properties. Sidewalk removal and replacement will follow the curb work.

Beginning Tuesday, August 4, the contractor will undertake a storm sewer repair within the roadway near the north entrance to Oakley Park Public School. As a result, the north entrance will be closed for the remainder of the week. Families and staff have been notified and are asked to use the south entrance while this work is underway.

Newton Street (Grove to Gunn)

The contractor has commenced curb and sidewalk removal and replacement on Newton Street. Advance notice will be provided to residents in affected areas prior to the start of construction activities.

Berczy Street (Gunn to Penetang)

Curb removal and replacement work on Berczy Street is scheduled to begin during the week of August 10. Residents impacted by this work will receive advance notice before construction begins in their area.

July 17, 2026

Due to recent weather conditions, work on this project has been delayed and the construction schedule has been revised.

To ensure work on Davidson Street is completed prior to the start of the school year, the contractor will now begin construction on Davidson Street on Monday, July 20. The contractor will be completing full curb removals and replacements as part of this work. Notifications have been delivered to affected residents advising of the upcoming construction activities and any anticipated impacts.

Following completion of the work on Davidson Street, construction will proceed to the remaining project areas. Additional notices will be provided in advance to residents directly affected by upcoming work.

July 3, 2026

The precondition survey is complete. The contractor is scheduled to mobilize to Berczy July 13 to begin removing concrete curbs. One side of the road will be affected at a time. Following the completion of Berczy, concrete curb removals will continue on Davidson then Newton. Notices will be delivered in advance to advise those directly affected by the work.

June 10, 2026

Construction is being carried out by Kon-Strutt Construction. A June 2026 information bulletin has been distributed to affected residents. 

Work is scheduled to begin the week of June 15. Initial activities will include pre-construction condition surveys, followed by removal of roadway curbs, localized concrete sidewalk repairs, full roadway reconstruction and restoration of affected boulevard areas.   

The project is expected to be completed by September 2026. 

Work on the below roads was completed in 2025:

• Lockhart Road, Finsbury to approximately 100m west of Yonge
• Mary Street, Ross to Dunlop
   

These roads required rehabilitation work in advance of the proposed full reconstruction/expansion. View the 2025 Capital Project Detail Report for more information.

When holding strategies are required on multiple roads, the work may be tendered separately for various reasons, such as differing scopes and the type of underground work required on different roads. Additionally, design for some roads takes longer than others, so the work can be tendered at different times.
