The City of Barrie lined 1,200 metres of an existing 500mm diameter concrete pressure pipe watermain on Big Bay Point Road between Bayview and Huronia, due to deterioration.
At the time of the Big Bay Point reconstruction in 2021, the extent of the watermain deterioration was not evident. Assessments had since identified corrosion and deterioration on parts of the large watermain, which presented risk of significant failures. As part of a proactive approach to maintaining infrastructure, the City lined this watermain to prevent future issues.
This work helps extend the life of the watermain, supports reliable water service, and reduces the risk of emergency repairs and disruptions in the future. This work was part of City Council’s approved 2025 budget and aligns with the Infrastructure Investments Priority from Council's 2022–2026 Strategic Plan.
The City awarded the contract to North Rock Group Limited.
