(Barrie, ON) – Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) will host the 2nd annual Ignite! Barrie Fire Academy from May 29 to 31, 2026. The free, three-day, hands-on experience is designed for young women aged 14 to 18 to explore future careers in the fire service.
Ignite! Barrie Fire Academy gives participants an inside look at a wide range of roles, including firefighting, emergency response, communications, fire prevention, and fire investigations. Through practical skill-building sessions, live demonstrations, and mentorship from experienced BFES personnel, participants will gain confidence and learn new abilities.
The program includes:
- Hands-on firefighting and emergency response simulations
- Training in fire safety, prevention, dispatch and investigations
- Instruction from experienced Barrie Fire and Emergency Service staff
- Team-building activities and leadership development
- Insight into real-world fire service operations
