July 8, 2026
Final pavement markings on Bayview Drive are now complete, marking the official completion of the project. The City extends its appreciation to local residents, businesses, and visitors for their patience, cooperation, and understanding throughout the project.
June 19, 2026
The top lift asphalt has been completed, and pavement marking installation is now underway. Final deficiency repairs, site restoration, and project clean-up activities are ongoing.
Minor traffic delays may occur periodically as this work is completed. All remaining work is expected to be completed by early July 2026.
May 22, 2026
Deficiency cleanup work is ongoing. Upcoming work includes grinding the base course asphalt at the intersection of Bayview Drive and Little Avenue, followed by installing traffic detection sensors. Weather permitting, the top lift of asphalt is scheduled for the week of June 8, with pavement markings to follow.
You can expect increased construction activity, equipment, and truck traffic in the area. Minor traffic delays may occur periodically; however, all local businesses remain open and accessible throughout the duration of the work.

Primrose Contracting Inc. is scheduled to remobilize to site in mid-April to complete the remaining deficiency cleanup and place the top lift of asphalt.
You can expect to see increased construction activity in the area, including equipment and truck traffic. Minor traffic delays may occur periodically; however, area businesses and organizations will remain open and accessible throughout the duration of this work.

All lanes on Bayview Drive are now fully open to traffic. Major construction is complete, with final paving and landscape restorations scheduled for spring 2026.

Two-way traffic is open as of the evening of July 31. Construction work will continue on the east side. Regular traffic lanes are anticipated to fully reopen in November 2025, with final asphalt paving scheduled for Spring 2026. Area businesses and organizations remain open during construction. Motorists can expect delays while the contractor continues their work of:
Widening the existing road from two lanes to three lanes (adding a centre turning lane);
Installing cycle lanes on both sides of the roadway; and
Maintaining traffic control for worker and public safety.

Two-way traffic is expected to open in early August, though construction work will continue. Regular lanes are anticipated to fully reopen in November 2025, with final asphalt paving scheduled for Spring 2026. Area businesses and organizations remain open during construction.
July 3, 2025
The reconstruction of Bayview Drive continues to progress. To date, subsurface work including watermain installation, new storm sewer, and crossing culverts has been completed. Sidewalk installation is also underway.
Primrose Contracting Inc. will proceed with asphalt paving of the southbound (west) lane as follows:
Friday, July 4 (evening): Prepare for paving operations
Saturday, July 5 (full day): Asphalt road installation on the southbound lane
Sunday, July 6: Southbound one-way traffic reconfigured to the newly installed asphalt
Weather contingency: If required, paving will shift to July 11–13
Southbound one-way traffic will continue on the newly paved lane until it is safe to open two-way traffic.
The project is actively progressing. To date the subsurface work has been completed, including watermain replacement and installation of a new storm sewer and crossing culverts.
The contractor, Primrose, will continue progress by:
Widening the existing road from two lanes to three lanes (adding a centre turning lane);
Installing cycle lanes on both sides of the roadway, and a sidewalk on the west side;
Continuing one-way access for vehicles driving southbound on Bayview Drive until two lanes can be safely opened.
More construction activity in the construction zone will occur as the above work continues. A May 2025 information bulletin is being distributed to nearby properties.

The contractor has put their plan for the upcoming winter season in place. The southbound one-way configuration on Bayview Drive will remain in place until late spring or early summer 2025. Resurfacing works between Springhome Drive and Little Avenue were completed ahead of the first day of school. Storm sewer work and watermain work have continued in front of Allandale Recreation Centre and Innisdale Secondary School. Watermain will continue to be constructed south in the coming weeks. Storm sewer work in front of 230 Bayview continues. Twin box culverts have been connected to the existing structure. Dewatering has begun around the twin box culvert south of 330 Bayview ahead of watermain construction under the box culvert.

Construction continues this week with stormwater work in front of Innisdale Secondary School and Allandale Recreation Centre. Watermain installation has also begun in this location. Box culvert construction has begun at the downstream end (near Purolator). A creek bypass is in place while the new box culvert is under construction.
The Bayview Drive lane closure between Little and Big Bay Point continues. This closure allows for one lane of continuous, one-way traffic southbound on Bayview Drive. Bayview Drive is accessible from Little (there is no access to Bayview from Big Bay Point).
Asphalt resurfacing is occurring on Bayview Drive from Little to Springhome. Removals and base course were completed August 12 and the top lift asphalt is being paved today. Traffic is flagged one direction. Drivers are encouraged to follow traffic signal persons and signage. An August 2024 information bulletin was distributed to nearby residents.

Work on the transportation improvements continue. Starting Tuesday, July 30, the closure of Bayview Drive between Little and Big Bay Point will be updated to help increase traffic flow and create an improved pathway for pedestrians/cyclists travelling through the area.
Instead of the current road closure, where people access Bayview Drive from either Big Bay Point or Little, depending on their destination, the closure change will allow for one lane of continuous, one-way traffic southbound on Bayview Drive. Bayview Drive will only be accessible from Little (there will be no access to Bayview from Big Bay Point).

The contractor will be mobilizing to site the week of June 10, 2024. An information bulletin is being distributed to affected residents and businesses between Little and Big Bay Point.
Early works will include environmental protection and widening of the intersection at Little and Bayview. Temporary signals, curb removal, and temporary asphalt will be installed to ease traffic congestion during a future road closure on Bayview (anticipated from early July to October 2024).
The closure will be required for construction on two stormwater culverts. To complete construction on culvert one, a closure will be in place at 236 Bayview Drive and the road will be impassable at that point. Once culvert one is complete, the closure will move to culvert two, located at 323/330 Bayview (the Purolator driveway and Royal Tank Lines driveway respectively) and the road will be impassable at that point. The culvert works must occur during this timing window timing window to protect trout spawning areas downstream.

Utility relocation work is progressing well with activity anticipated to continue throughout May and early June. The City's construction tender has closed and will be awarded soon. Utility work continues along the corridor with lane closures and delays anticipated. Alectra is on site installing final poles, pulling cable, and connecting customers. Telus, Rogers (Link-on) and Bell (Avertex) will soon be doing work along the corridor.
A full road closure is planned in the vicinity of the project from April 8–12. The closure of Bayview Drive (Big Bay Point to Mollard) is required to connect the watermain for an industrial development project. There will be no through traffic while construction occurs at this location (on the Big Bay Point side of Purolator entrance). Businesses will remain accessible from Little Avenue during this time.

Utility relocations are underway along Bayview Drive. Enbridge Gas through their contractor NPL Canada will be relocating services throughout the next month. Affected businesses will be contacted by their Enbridge customer service representative. Drivers are reminded to slow down around construction activities.

The City has revised the active transportation design along this corridor and will be implementing an off-road cycling facility along Bayview Drive between Little Avenue and Big Bay Point. The revised design is underway and details will be provided once complete.
April 2022
The City has engaged the existing utility owners along the Bayview Dr. corridor in order to coordinate utility relocations to avoid future conflicts with the proposed roads. Design for these relocations is expected to be completed this year, with physical relocations occurring in 2023. Property acquisition is ongoing for the small sections of property identified in the Environmental Assessment completed for this work. Construction is still on schedule to start in 2024.
April 2021
The City of Barrie Infrastructure Department has completed the 100% Detailed Design for this project. Property Acquisition is expected to occur in 2021 and 2022, with utility relocations expected in 2023. Construction is expected to start in 2024.

Project Features
The Big Bay Point Road intersection at Bayview Drive was part of the Harvie Road/Highway 400 Crossing project, completed in June 2021. The improvements to Bayview Drive match the improvements constructed at the intersection and continue north to Little Avenue.
Contracted construction included:
Widening the road to include one northbound lane, one southbound lane and a two-way left turn lane in the centre
Off-road cycle tracks on both sides of the roadway where possible*
Accessible sidewalk on the west side of the roadway
Replacement and improvement to local water and sanitary sewer services
Stormwater culvert crossing upgrades
Stormwater quantity and quality improvements
Street lighting upgrades
*This project was redesigned for off-road cycle tracks as much as possible. The dedicated off-road cycle tracks could not be fully achieved throughout the corridor due to property, utility, public transit requirements, existing recreation centre parking, and conflicting use constraints.
