City of Barrie readies for next major winter storm

(BarrieON) – The City of Barrie is preparing for another winter weather system tomorrow, as Environment Canada is predicting significant snowfall for the area, as well as a risk of freezing rain and ice pellets.

The City is continuously monitoring the weather and has winter maintenance crews ready to respond. All available plows will focus on priority and secondary routes as snow accumulates tomorrow, and will move onto residential streets once those routes are complete.

Barrie remains under a Significant Weather Event as crews continue to work to restore winter maintenance standards across the city. There are overnight snow lifting crews removing snowbanks from arterial and collector roads with a focus on narrow curb lanes and on-street cycling lanes. As well, sight lines at busy intersections are being cleared on an ongoing basis. The Significant Weather Event cannot be lifted until all narrowed roads and cycling lanes have been addressed.

Residents are asked to keep garbage/organics carts and recycling boxes out of the path of snow removal equipment. For more curbside collection winter tips, visit barrie.ca/WinterCurbsideCollection. For winter maintenance updates and information on service levels, visit barrie.ca/snow.

If the weather event causes power outages, residents are encouraged to follow Alectra or InnPower on social media or view the outages maps on their respective websites for the latest updates.
