Want a gorgeous butterfly, a colourful bird, or a goofy bumblebee to visit your yard? Find out how rewarding native plant gardening is!

Educational Focus: Native plant gardening is crucial for maintaining and restoring local ecosystems. Native plants are adapted to the local climate and soil conditions, making them more resilient and beneficial for the environment. They provide essential resources for local wildlife, including food and habitat for pollinators such as bees and butterflies. In contrast, non-native and invasive species can disrupt these ecosystems, outcompeting native species and leading to a decline in biodiversity.

The event will feature:

  • Pollinator Plant Sale: Pay What You Can Native Plant Sale Promoting biodiversity and pollinator health. CASH or E-TRANSFER only.
  • Expert Guidance: Representatives from Pollinate Barrie will be on-site to discuss which native species will thrive in different yard conditions.
  • Certified Arborist Consultation: A certified arborist will be available to advise attendees on the best tree selections for their properties, ensuring long-term success and ecological benefits.

Why Native Plants Matter: Pollinators like bees and butterflies co-evolved with specific plants, grasses, shrubs and trees over millions of years. They need each other to survive–and the usual garden plants that we have replaced with our native species within our cities and suburbs are ineffective substitutes. Building safe habitats full of native Ontario plants is the only way to save the butterflies and bees that we love and depend on for our own survival.

Community Engagement: This event is not just a fundraiser but an educational opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of native plants. Attendees will leave with more than just plants; they will gain knowledge and resources to contribute positively to the environment. The event also supports local environmental charities, ensuring that proceeds benefit initiatives aimed at preserving and enhancing our natural surroundings.

Join Us: Living Green Barrie and Pollinate Barrie invite everyone in the community to join this important event. Whether you pre-ordered online or not, you are welcome to visit, learn, and purchase native plants directly from our current stock. Together, we can make a significant impact on our local environment.
