City seeking applicants for Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

(Barrie, ON) — The City of Barrie is inviting applications from members of the public interested in serving on the Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee for the 2026–2030 term.

The Committee is an independent body established under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Its role is to review and make decisions on applications requesting compliance audits of municipal election or by-election campaign finances for candidates and registered third-party advertisers. The committee also considers reports from the municipal clerk that identify contributors who appear to have contravened election contribution limits.

The Committee will consist of three public members appointed for a term beginning in November 2026 and ending November 14, 2030. 

The City is seeking individuals with experience or expertise in areas such as municipal election finance rules, accounting, auditing, law, political science, local government administration, quasi-judicial proceedings, and committee work. Members will receive a meeting per diem.

Employees or officers of the City or its local boards, members of Council or local boards, candidates, registered third-party advertisers, and individuals with personal or professional relationships with candidates or registered third-party advertisers are not eligible to serve.
